20 teams to play in Al Hamad cricket

A total of 20 teams will participate in the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council organised Al Hamad Contracting Trophy ‘A’ Division tournament from January 17 onwards, according to a Press release.

 The matches will be played at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Nursery Ovals 1& 2. This will be the 4th Edition under the banner of Al Hamad group of Companies.

The teams will be divided into four groups and two top teams from each group shall qualify for the knock-out stage. The 50-over matches will be played every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The games shall initially be played on a round-robin basis, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final respectively.

Friday matches will commence at 3:00 pm while Thursday and Saturday games will start at 3.30 pm. The day games at the Oval Grounds 1 & 2 will start at 9.00 am. All participating teams shall be provided with coloured clothing and there are generous cash prizes and trophies for the winners (Dh20,000 ), runners-up (12,000 ) as well as a host of other awards such as the man of the match, man of the Tournament, best batsman, & bowler.

The following teams shall participate in the tournament: ECB Blues; NMC; Yogi Group; Abu Dhabi Gymkhana; Wings X1; Fly Emirates; Interface Trans World; Phoenix Medicine; Danube Lions; Ibsons; Alubond Tigers; UBL; Abtech; Multiplex; Dubai Lions; Brooks; Al Faraa; Seven Seas; Grand Midwest; Cool & Cool.

Wajahat Husain, President of ADCC stated that “Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, has a clear vision to encourage top level cricket amongst the local and expatriate population of Abu Dhabi and UAE.

“ADCC has been aligned to this vision and supported the game with passion and with the intent to produce cricketers worthy of their place in the UAE National team.’’ He also thanked the Al Hamad Group of Companies for their support to develop the game and encourage teams.
