The Sharjah Municipality has made it mandatory for landlords of residential and commercial buildings to annually present building safety certificates and to give elevator maintenance contracts to companies approved by the Civil Defense to ensure safety of tenants.Sultan Al Mualla, Director- General of Sharjah Municipality, said the municipality has formed committees comprising inspectors from the maintenance and demolition and emergency inspections section to carry out intensified inspections in coordination with the Sharjah Civil Defense to ensure that buildings are abiding by safety regulations. Those found violating the regulations will not be tolerated and the municipality will not attest their contracts, he said.
