MANAMA — Bahrain parliament has approved amendments to the rallies law that include paying deposit of up to BD20,000 by the organisers of the events.
The amendment, passed on Tuesday during the weekly session of the lower house, aims to prevent violence that usually occurs after weekly rallies often leaving public and private utilities damaged.
The amendment was opposed by the parliament advisor who said that it was against the freedom of expression. An interior ministry spokesman said the amount is refundable and the authorires expect participants of those rallies to stick to the rules.
