UAE, Turkmenistan to boost bilateral ties

Shaikh Khalifa receives Turkmen President in Abu Dhabi, expresses hope on bolstering friendship.

The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, held discussions with the visiting Turkmen President, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, at Al Diyafa Palace in Al Mushrif on Monday.

General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, was also present at the meeting.

Shaikh Khalifa welcomed the Turkmen President and his accompanying delegation’s visit and expressed hope that the visit would contribute to bolstering friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries further, in addition to opening up wider horizons of mutual collaboration in various fields.

The discussions focussed on developing distinguished bilateral relations between the UAE and Turkmenistan for the benefit of the two friendly countries, in addition to achieving joint interests of both sides.

The two leaders also discussed the development of relations between the GCC countries and the countries of Central Asia in light of the strategic importance of the two regions.

The discussions dealt with a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest. The two parties emphasised the importance of regional and international cooperation in order to boost security and peace in the region.

 Raising relations to new levels

Shaikh Khalifa expressed the UAE’s pride at the continuous development of joint relations, which would have positive results in terms of raising those relations to new levels.

This, in turn, would strengthen economic and investment partnerships for the advantage of the two friendly countries. The Turkmen President congratulated Shaikh Khalifa on the UAE’s 42nd National Day celebrations and Dubai’s success in being selected as the host city for World Expo 2020. Berdimuhamedow expressed his pleasure at visiting the UAE and meeting with Shaikh Khalifa. He referred to his country’s respect, appreciation and gratitude for its relations with the UAE.

He hailed the UAE’s cultural achievement in all spheres, particularly its overall renaissance, which has given the country a prestigious status at regional and international levels. He also praised the country’s wise political stances, thanks to the prudent leadership of Shaikh Khalifa.

He expressed his best wishes for more growth, welfare and development of the UAE, and for good health and happiness of Shaikh Khalifa.

He expressed his country’s desire to extend bridges of bilateral cooperation into further collaboration, especially in the economic, investment, tourist and cultural fields, pointing out the encouraging elements of both sides in order to build constructive partnerships.

 ‘Cooperation Programme’

The meeting discussed ways to support investments between the UAE and Turkmenistan, particularly in the oil, gas, oil products and petrochemicals industries and renewable energy, through a joint committee at the level of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.

The two leaders attended the signing of a number of agreements and MoUs, including a ‘Cooperation Programme’ between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

The agreement was signed by Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Foreign Minister, and Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The two sides also inked a MoU in the field of higher education, which was signed by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Gurbanmyrat Mezilov, President of the Academy of Science of Turkmenistan.

 Agreements in Meteorology

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) and the Academy of Science of Turkmenistan signed a MoU, with the signatories being Ahmed Juma Al Za’abi, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs, and Gurbanmyrat Mezilov, President of the Academy of Science of  Turkmenistan.

Ahmed Juma Al Za’abi and the Chairman of the Turkmen National Committee for Hydro-meteorology, Batyr Halliyev, signed a MoU. The Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the two countries signed another MoU to establish the UAE-Turkemenistan Business Council, this being signed by Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, and Mergen Shalyev, Chairman of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.

The signing of the agreements and MoUs was attended by Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region; Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC); Shaikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region; Shaikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser; Shaikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative; Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs; other Shaikhs and senior officials. — Wam
