Bahrain gears up to host GCC Summit

As part of preparations for the GCC Summit which Bahrain will host on December 24-25, the Bahrain Radio and TV news centre is finalizing measures to ensure appropriate media coverage of the forthcoming event.

Information Affairs Authority (IAA) President Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa recently visited the news centre where he was briefed about the cutting-edge news equipment and programmes highlighting GCC achievements since its inception in 1981.

On this occasion Shaikh Fawaz pointed out that the news centre would be fully equipped with state of the art technology to ensure an outstanding media coverage of the GCC Summit, including digital control rooms, production and editing facilities which would be supervised by highly competent media personnel. He stressed IAA’s keenness on promoting media work, TV filming and external high resolution HD camera. The IAA has already received a cutting-edge Outside Broadcasting Van (OB van), with two more set to be delivered this month.

‘Pictures in Love
of Bahrain’
contest launched

As part of the activities of Al Bir Project Board a photo competition is being organised to mark Bahrain’s celebrations of the National Day this December.

“Pictures in Love of Bahrain” aims to boost patriotism, strengthen family relations and promote righteousness to parents. People wishing to take part through photos via the Instagram Programme, showing love for the homeland or family, should provide clear and with good quality photos, while the entries should be related to the themes of the competition.

Entries could be sent to Thirty best pictures will be selected weekly and displayed on Instagram account (@ALBIR_BH) to be voted on by the public. The five pictures which get the most votes will be announced. Winners will grab prizes worth up to BD3000. 

Tylos Exhibition opens

Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa opened last week “Tylos, the Journey Life” exhibition at the State Museum of Oriental Art in the Russian capital Moscow in the presence of international celebrities and delegates interested in heritage and museums.

Launched in early July 2012 at the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, in the presence of Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, “Tylos, the Journey Life” exhibition proved to be a huge success, attracting half a million tourists from all over the world.

“Tylos, the Journey Life” exhibition showcases 250 Bahrain National Museum-owned precious artefacts dating back to the period between the 2nd Century BC and the 3rd Century AD.

The expo reconstructs rituals, funerary traditions and preparations for the afterlife, all in a well-documented narrative showcasing pots, jewellery, make-up, coins, artifacts and dead remnants. 

Bahrain ranked among top
countries in GIS field

Bahrain, represented by the Central Informatics and Communications Organisation (CICO), has been chosen as one of two leading countries in the world in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). American world leader in GIS, ESRI, ranked Bahrain and Venezuela atop.

CICO-GIS Director Dr Khalid Abdulrahman Al Hidan said choosing CICO is the result of developing GIS at the local, regional, continental and international level.
