FOR LONG, DUE recognition has been evading Jayasurya. Not that he was way too much frazzled about it. In fact, when the jury members give him a miss at the state awards last year despite an impressive performance in Apothecary and Iyobinte Pusthakam, he won the hearts of the people with praise pouring in for him on social media.
"I regard these comments from the people as much more valuable than any institutional honour," he told City Times then.
This year again, the state film awards ignored him choosing to give him a consolatory 'Special Mention,' while Dulquer Salman went on to win the best actor award for Charlie. It was another 'DiCaprio moment' for Jayasurya, a reference to the long dry run of the Hollywood actor at the Oscars.
Jayasurya, laughing at the joke of the 'DiCaprio reference,' gracefully comments that the Special Jury Mention for his role in Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam and Lukka Chuppi as his 'Oscar' moment.
Revealing his pride at being on a winners list that is crowned by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, Jayasurya says that for him acting is a journey and that he firmly believes that his best is always the next film.
"I have done several movies that I was forced to like but now I have taken a call to do only projects that I like, without cutting corners," says Jayasurya.
He says that personally the role of Sudhi has influenced him. "Sudhi talks to you about accepting yourself - as you are without making comparisons with anyone. Many of us are fighting our inner demons and it is important to accept one's shortcomings as the first step to positive change," he adds.
Jayasurya will soon come in a delightfully different role as Inspector Dawood Ibrahim, titled as IDI, and also in his next collaboration with director Ranjith Shankar for Pretham, one that takes on the genre of horror-comedy. He has also announced the sequel to Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeevi Aanu, which, curiously, has gained traction now despite being cold-shouldered at the box office during its release.
