Consumer technologies are no longer a person's luxury or unachievable wants, rather they constitute the needs and basis of our collective existence, according to Arjan P Chatani, Manager - Marketing and Business Development of ITL Cosmos Group.
With evolving consumer trends in mind, ITL Cosmos Group this year aims to churn tech-savvy offerings for consumers while meeting challenges and utilising opportunities.
"We will be putting on offer a range of products at affordable prices, complemented with exceptional service conditions and quality guarantees. A product or service may come and do well for some time, but, if not backed with a commitment to excellent service and customer support, its time will come to an end faster," he says.
ITL Cosmos Group stays committed to the consumer electronics retail market and continues to set standards in the region, as the first Dubai-based company to receive a decree of incorporation from the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, former Ruler of Dubai, in 1958.
To date, the company leads in consumer technology category with LCD/LED TVs, with Sharp's new line of Android TVs significantly contributing to this category.
"We expect to see adoption and customer acceptance of Sharp's next generation 8K resolution TVs. ITL Cosmos Group are master distributors for One For All for the region, and the range of newly introduced Bluetooth enabled, smart universal remote controls have received an overwhelming response," Chatani says.
Other vendor partners of the company include Remington, Rhythm, Varta and Westfalia.
"ITL Cosmos Group fully recognises, respects and is committed to the need for adaptability and change, nevertheless without compromising on our underlying business ethics among which customer care, competitive zeal and fair enterprise are paramount," he adds.
While the UAE has attained its present position amongst the top 10 most popular global destinations among international retailers, it is expected to occupy a position among the top five shortly. Chatani adds that this would be all thanks to the dynamic leadership and foresight of UAE leaders, as well as the open, competitive and fair market, that has built, nurtured and sustained the industry.
New developments
The UAE has become a launch pad for new developments in the consumer electronics sector. The market here is versatile and accommodates consumer demands and desires. Chatani reveals that distinctive trends have emerged in recent months that promise to propel the market to newer directions.
First up is the initiative for an eco-compatible technological drive that is complemented with consumer's interests such as cost-efficacy, design and output. The younger generation is likely to buy products from companies who follow a 'give-back' model or feature environmentally friendly products and packaging. Secondly, the momentum from multi-functional devices have advanced to the realm of drones for enhanced customer experience. The last is the significant rise of artificial intelligence.
"We have already caught a glimpse of machines that can problem-solve on their own, like self-driving cars. Advanced versions, such as the popular Siri and Alexa, can perform simple tasks and pull information, which will expose us further to machines that can adapt and learn skills, that only we as human have possessed so far," Chatani adds.
Trends in home appliances
Home appliances constitute a substantial portion of the electronics market today. What began as an industrial innovation has now moved on to the home for its fulfilment, and this is what makes our technological advancement so much more meaningful. Home appliances have always remained innovative but the hottest trends which have emerged over the recent months are convenience, comfort, and smart or intelligent appliances - built with IOT (Internet Of Things). Home appliances today are no longer cumbersome or incomprehensible; rather they are expedient and versatile. Siri and Alexa can perform simple tasks and pull information. As software and connectivity within appliances improve, we expect to see artificial intelligence and human characteristics demonstrated by these devices. For instance, a casserole will now be able to communicate with the induction cooker, and get it to turn the temperature up or down, depending on what is cooking. A refrigerator will have more compartments than we have so far seen and adjust its cooling based on the food in the compartment and the room temperature.
Upcoming trends
Artificial Intelligence: ITL Cosmos Group currently represents vendors that have investments in R&D, and strongly believes that the next generation of products it launches will be winners.
Wireless charging for mobile devices: The technology and the market are maturing and consolidating sufficiently for mainstream adoption. ITL Cosmos Group has partnered with Varta, a German major in battery technology, in this regard.
