Muslim women who work in fast-food restaurants and outlets in Malaysia's Kelantan state including the ones employed in the hypermarkets have a new dress code to follow.
As reported by Outlook India, they have been instructed to wear clothes that abide by the Islamic laws. This includes modest and unobtrusive clothing such as wearing long-sleeved uniforms. The rule is to come into play by next year.
Most of the women workers happen to wear short-sleeved uniforms while working in the above mentioned establishments.
According to New Strait Times Online, Kelantan's Local Government, Housing, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Fattah Mahmood has said that the new uniforms should also be paired with loose pants, incase this is possible.
He also stated that the new dress code ruling did not include the non-Muslims, however they too have been advised to dress modestly.
According to Free Malaysia Today, Datuk Abdul Fattah Mahmood has also been quoted as saying that this particular issue has been discussed with some of the hypermarkets and businesses, who have agreed to abide by the law.
