Every year millions are spent in Asian countries - including Pakistan, on the celebration of weddings.
The families and the couple save as much money possible to throw the most lavish wedding party to win the appreciation of the society.
But a couple from Pakistan, Shehzaan and Zainab Chunara, thought a little out of the box. Though the couple had saved money for the wedding celebration, they donated all of it to a charity and cancelled their dream wedding.
The wedding was then solemnized in a simple way. "We began tallying up expenses and started to think it wasn't worth putting that much money toward something that would only last a few days," Shehzaan told Today.com.
"Something didn't quite feel right. We wanted to use the money for something that will have a lasting impact."
They donated money to an NGO, the Agha Khan Foundation. The organisation works to end poverty by investing in education, infrastructure and self-sustaining communities.
"I've seen poverty up close and it's extremely heart-wrenching," Shehzaan said. "We felt like it was the right thing to do to give someone an opportunity to have clean water, an education and a roof over their head."
