A 17-year-old girl delivered a baby on a busy street in Jharkhand on Tuesday morning.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, she was spotted by a morning jogger Om Prakash Sharma around 4 am with a newborn on her lap, umbilical cord still intact.
"She was in a miserable state. She was shivering and unable to lift and cuddle her infant. Heavy vehicles were crossing by but she didn't have the strength to move aside," he said to Hindustan Times.
The community health centre in the vicinity ignored the request of the residents to admit the new born and the mother. After they created a ruckus, the CHC doctor came to the spot and cut the umbilical cord.
The mother and infant are now at the hospital and will be kept under observation for two days.
It has now emerged that the girl was in love with a villager and was dumped once she was pregnant. Fearing social isolation, her mother drove her away.
