Two members of a gang of robbers, who moved about in an ambulance to dodge the police, were arrested and gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh stolen from a businessman's house here in February recovered, police said Sunday.
Police said the burglars had bought the vehicle and converted it into an ambulance, so they could flee after a crime, bypassing red lights and not having to pay toll.
Registering a case on the complaint of victim Vijay Gupta, a resident of Nehru Nagar (III) whose house was targeted when he was on pilgrimage and jewellery and Rs 10 cash stolen, police were probing the case. On the basis of a tip-off, Adesh and Manoj, both living in Vijay Nagar, here, were arrested and confessed to the crime.
The two revealed that the gang leader is Atul Tiwari who is absconding.
The Crime Branch solved the case and recovered 22 articles including Laxmi and Ganesh idols, gold bangles, and gold and silver coins worth Rs 20 lakh, Senior Superintendent of Police H.N. Singh said at a press conference.
