The family members of Mohan Shyam, who was killed along with his wife Anju in the flydubai plane crash at Russia's Rostov-on-don airport on Saturday, are "totally devastated."
While the mother and sister of 27-year-old Shyam are still battling with the shock in a hospital, his aged father is struggling hard to come to terms with the reality. Shyam's brother-in-law K V Prashanth told Khaleej Times that the tragic news has left the entire family shell-shocked.
Prashanth, who came to Shyam's Chamakkala house at Perumbavoor along with his wife to see off the couple on Thursday, were waiting there to hear about their safe arrival at Rostov before returning to their home at Muvattupuzha. When the call did not come after the flight's scheduled arrival time, they became jittery.
Fear gripped them when they heard the news about the plane crash on television. The entire family was plunged into gloom when news reports mentioned the death of two Indians in the crash. Their fears were confirmed by local MP innocent Vareed Thekkethala. Prashanth said that the family still had no official information about the bodies being brought to the country. Though officials from the Indian Embassy at Moscow called the family, they did not give any time when the bodies would be sent from Rostov.
Prashanth said they were expecting a definite time only by Monday morning.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's office said that they were in touch with the External affairs Ministry for arrangements to bring home the bodies. The Chief Minister had spoken with the family members on Saturday.Prashanth said the news had saddened the entire town as Shyam and Anju were known as a couple who were deeply in love. Shyam had met Anju, who was working as an ayurvedic masseuse at a spa in Rostov, the first time when she came to her relative's place near his house at Perumbavoor. They soon fell in love.
Shyam, who was working in an electronics shop in Cochin, quit his job and started doing an ayurveda course to be with Anju. after completing the training, the two tied the knot in November 2014 and left for Russia. Shyam also managed to get a job at the spa where Anju worked. This was their second visit home after marriage. Prashanth said that the two had planned to return to Kerala permanently after two years. The death has left the two families totally shattered.
Shyam's family, which consists of his ageing parents and a sister, was totally dependent on him for their living. His 65-year-old father, who was working as a carpenter, stopped working after he suffered a stroke three years ago.Anju, who lost her father at a very early age, is survived by her mother Geeta and brother Ajith. Thirty-year-old Ajith, who is working as a carpenter, is the lone source of support to the family now.
