A customs employee at Calicut International Airport was arrested on Friday on charges of stealing a three sovereign gold chain of a male passenger from Dubai, police said.
Abdul Kareem, a customs employee in the rank of havildar, was arrested on a complaint by the passenger that the chain kept in a tray at the customs counter in the airport during a x-ray check of his baggage had been lost on May 19.
The passenger, who had arrived by an Air India Express flight that day, suspected Kareem to have stolen the chain.
Verification of CCTV footage at the airport showed Kareem taking the chain, police said, addin the chain had been recovered from him.
He was arrested under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code and produced before the Manjeri Judicial First Class Magistrate court, which remanded him to two weeks judicial custody.
