Diwali is a five-day festival celebrating the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. The five day celebration begins with Dhanteras, followed by Choti (little) Diwali or Naraka Chaturdasi. It is then followed by the Lakshmi pooja. The next celebration is the Govardhan Pooja or Balipratipad (Padwa), and finally Bhai Dooj.
