Germany expects at least 10,000 more refugees to arrive on Monday, after about 20,000 came at the weekend, an official in the southern state of Bavaria said.

The estimate of migrants coming mostly on trains from Hungary via Austria to the southern city of Munich was "10,000 plus", said Upper Bavaria district president Christoph Hillenbrand.

Munich has been the central hub for new arrivals to be taken on to shelters across Germany in recent days.

However, given their huge numbers, Munich was set to be relieved as a transport hub by the main railway stations of two more cities, one of them possibly the eastern city of Leipzig, he told journalists.

Rail operator Deutsche Bahn, meanwhile, said it had brought 22,000 refugees across the border into Germany in over 100 trains in recent days, topping the police estimate of 20,000 arrivals since Saturday.
