Pleasant Ride
Inspired by two basic elements — water and air — and designed with a complete focus on comfort, the interiors of Dubai Metro trains promise commuters a pleasant ride all through.
The train interiors boast impressive designing with comfortable seats, adequate space for those standing, arrangements for people with special needs as well as comfort for women
and children.
Each train has five compartments with plush interiors, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has promised. The trains will have three classes, namely, the Golden Class, Women and Children Class and the Silver
Class (Economy).
Ample Parking
Three major parking lots will be available for Dubai Metro passengers. The first parking lot will be at the Etisalat station near Dubai International Airport with 3,000 spaces.
The second at Rashidiya station will have 2,700 spaces and the third at Jumeirah Lakes Towers will also feature 3,000 parking spaces.
Feeder buses will be available to transport passengers from specific locations to the nearest metro station.
Treat for Air Travellers
If the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro claim to provide a seamless and luxurious ride to the central business districts of the emirate, the Blue and the Purple Lines will be a boon for frequent flyers.
As per the plan, the Blue Line will be 47km long and will run along the Emirates Road and will also provide a shuttle service between the two airports. The RTA has made it clear earlier that there may be changes in a number of stations and facilities in these two lines.
The Purple Line will be an express service linking the Jebel Ali Airport with Dubai International Airport; it will consist of eight stations and will mainly serve passengers between the two airports. The line will include three major stations with check-in facilities for passengers intending to travel from either of the two airports. Passengers will be able to check in at the stations, take boarding passes and take the train to travel straight to the airport.
In Touch with Special Needs People
The emirate cares. And the Dubai Metro proves that. When it opens next month, the Dubai Metro will bring joy to residents with special needs, too.
Audio-visual guidance devices and information display designed to suit the requirements of hearing and visually-impaired individuals are just two examples of the fact that the much-awaited transport system is truly meant
for all citizens of the emirate.
Facilities include floor sensors to guide them to the doors of Metro platforms, right up to the places designated for their seating.
Services customised to suit these individuals also include lifts, escalators and ATMs, as well as designated places for wheel chairs fitted with safety belts.
GIS portal to educate metro commuters
The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA)--Dubai has launched a website to enable the public use the Geographical Information System (GIS) of Dubai Metro. The website provides information about metro lines, stations, runtime and multi-modal interchange points, using features and functions of the GIS technology.
Safe, Secure and Smooth
If those serpentine Metro viaducts are causing you palpitation, relax. For the Dubai Metro is going to be a safe ride.
The Rail Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) had appointed an independent Safety Assessor to ensure that the system requirements are completely defined and the risks eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level
The Dubai Metro has various features that will contribute to its safety and reliability. These include a Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system, bottom contact conductor rail with insulated covers as used on Metros in Singapore, Italy, Taipei and Oslo, a radio system that integrates the Metro with the emergency services and continuously recording front and rear facing cameras on rolling stock for incident investigation.
Other features include Platform Screen Doors, derailment containment by means of concrete plinth up-stand throughout Metro main line, continuous fencing and an Intruder Alarm System to prevent people from entering the guideway, track maintenance vehicles fitted with the CBTC.
Besides these, provisions of concrete barriers, enhanced parapets on bridges, a Wayside Obstacle Detection system, etc, will protect the guideway from intrusion by road vehicles and other objects, and a walkway is provided along entire alignment for access and emergency evacuation, and last but not the least, the project is in compliance with various benchmark standards.
