A Dubai court has reduced a fine, imposed on an Egyptian actress for getting involved in a physical assault case against a family of American tourists in Dubai, from Dh10,000 to Dh5,000.

Earlier, 38-year-old actress Zeina faced an additional charge of assaulting a 12-year-old girl of the family.

In May, the Court of Misdemeanours ordered the actress to pay a fine of Dh10,000. It also ordered the tourist to pay an equal fine on an assault charge (which the tourist denied in court). The Dubai Court of Appeals has now reduced the fine to Dh5,000 to both parties.

The actress had been referred to court for an incident that took place on June 29 last year. She got into an altercation with the Arab-American family over claims that the daughter took photos of her without consent.

A case was later registered at Al Barsha police station. As no photos or videos of the actress were found in the mobile phones of the woman and her daughter, a charge of invasion of privacy was dismissed by the court. No such material was found to be deleted from their phones, according to experts' technical report.

Both parties filed cases against each other and were not willing to resolve the dispute amicably.

An eye-witness told the investigators that the actress started screaming at the girl as she thought she was taking photos of her. A fight then ensued after the girl's parents rushed to their daughter and the actress' sister also stepped in.
