Tickets for the soon-to-be-opened Dubai Opera have gone on sale on the venue's official website.

The city's first purpose-built multi-format performing arts theatre, Dubai Opera overlooks the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain and will open its doors to the public on August 31st for a show with "the King of Opera", Placido Domingo.

The destination will welcome a varied programme of cultural and lifestyle events including operas, ballet, classical performances, musicals, Arab and World Music, comedy, film, family entertainment, as well as rock, pop and jazz concerts.

The Domingo concert will be followed by a three-act historic opera - the Pearl Fishers - on September 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The opera - by French composer Georges Bizet - is an ode to the heritage of Dubai and the pearl-diving expeditions that took place here before the invention of cultured pearls.

The month will end with "Impossible", in which some of the world's best illusionists perform a variety of death-defying stunts, technical tricks and magic.

Other performances in September include the "The Barber of Seville", "Opera without words", as well as "Giselle" and "Capellia", both of which are to be performed by the Russian State Ballet and Orchestra of Siberia.

In addition to classical shows, Dubai Opera will host a variety of other cultural and lifestyle events, including musicals, Arab and world music, comedy, film and family entertainment events, as well as rock, pop and jazz concerts.
