Johnson brings
an evening of melody to Dubai

/ 22 April 2010

DUBAI — Award-winning Indian music composer Johnson is bringing his rich repertoire of melodious songs for the first time to the Middle East at a music show at Al Nasr Leisureland, Dubai, tomorrow.

Described as the ‘John Williams of Malayalam cinema’ for his orchestration skills, Johnson is leading a group of established singers K. S. Chitra, G. Venugopal, Vijay Yesudas, Sudeep, Radhika Tilak, Durga Viswanath and Abhishek for ‘Mazhavil Kavadi,’ a show organised by Kalabhavan Dubai.

Part of the proceeds from the show will be contributed to Cochin Cancer Society, a philanthropic organisation started three years back with the objective of alleviating the pain of cancer patients who face financial difficulties.

The show will essentially be a throwback on the superhit tracks composed by Johnson over the past years.

“Johnson is a legend in the Malayalam film industry with his own brand of music that is timeless. His compositions are close to the hearts of music lovers,” said Unni Bhaskar, managing director of Countach Group, which owns and manages the Kalabhavan franchise in Dubai.

“A highlight of the show is the accompanying music, provided by Johnson’s own Recording Artistes Group,” added Suresh Krishnan, head – Events, Countach Group.

A winner of two Indian national awards and several state awards for best music score, Johnson is credited with bringing unmatched freshness to Malayalam cinema. In an inimitable approach, he blends the melody of south Indian music with the harmony of European classical music.
