Integration of Mass Transit Modes Debated at Meeting

DUBAI — The Metropolitan Railways Assembly on Saturday discussed several issues related to construction and operation of the Metro projects such as funding, integration of mass transit modes and use of eco-friendly 
clean energy.

The assembly was opened by Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Organised by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), the event was attended by UITP President Allen Feluchi, international executives of light and express trains, and consultants and experts of electrical, mechanical and constructional engineering associated with Metro projects.

Welcoming the participants to the UAE, Al Tayer said: “The United Arab Emirates is witnessing a tremendous economic growth, thanks to the wise leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.”

He said the wisdom of our distinguished leaders has turned the country into a business hub enhanced by a robust and diverse economy.

“Given its broad international profile, free economic policy, emphasis on delivering the best services at the least possible costs, and the superb infrastructure in all fields, the country been successful in attracting investors and businessmen, and established a prosperous transport sector, which has recently been crowned by the inauguration of Dubai Metro,” he explained.

Dubai Metro is testimony to the sincere intention of Shaikh Mohammed to provide integrated roads and transport infrastructure, and to deliver a Metro network using world’s best rail technology.

Al Tayer pointed out that RTA has achieved integration of various modes of transportation such as buses, taxis and marine transport.
