Seasonal discounts and availability of value-for-money products round the year offer a natural nudge to spend on a variety of things - be it on textiles, accessories, dining out, electronics, musical  instruments, or even new furniture.
While there are a number of crafty DIY (do-it-yourself) storage ideas to organise and declutter your space, these splurges may eventually become an obstruction in apartments or workspaces, notably when there is a need to relocate, clean interiors, or move out of the country.
Responding to the needs of the expatriate community, there has been an increase in the number of self-storage solutions across the country. The trend, which has been gaining popularity in the past years, provides people with temporary space to keep their belongings in a safe, dust-free environment until they sort out their homes or offices.
The storage period is available on a short- to long-term basis, with various space options for items of all sizes, in a number of locations. "Residents are very open to the concept once they understand how it works and realise how easy it is to make room at home or the office by storing items they don't immediately need," says Lisa Jackson, General Manager of The Box Self Storage Services.
The customer-centric business takes a step forward to promote the industry and help residents understand the difference between warehousing and self-storage.
Expatriate life means people are always on the move, which is why a number of self-storage services offer local moving services, as well as international relocation to help former residents take their possessions back home.
Looking at the needs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), these organisations offer storage facilities for items such as furniture, desks, chairs, etc. with the option of logistics and management assistance.
Other knick-knacks on offer include packaging materials such as boxes, tapes and wrapping plastics, to name a few, with access to an online store that adds convenience to customers' lives.
Rather than a simple lock-and-key feature, organisations incorporate digital technology to enforce security measures and limit access to storage facilities. Customers are assigned a unique PIN code along with a padlock, and the premises are manned by trained security personnels and monitored on CCTV at all times.
With self-storage solutions dotted across the country, residents are spoilt for choice, and use additional space to their advantage.
"The customers are always at the heart of our business and we listen to their needs. We understand what it means to keep their valuable goods somewhere safe and secure, and aim to give them peace of mind," Jackson adds.
