Six impostor cops nabbed for robbing people

Afkar Abdullah / 9 November 2011

AJMAN - The Ajman Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of six persons of Asian nationalities who had allegedly been posing as CID officers, and assaulting and robbing people.

A top Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer told Khaleej Times that the police had received several complaints from various parts of the emirate about some persons impersonating CID officers and robbing people. The police formed a team to investigate and hunt for the culprits.

During investigation, the police learnt that four gangsters were arrested by the Umm Al Quwain Police for allegedly impersonating police officers. On verifying the descriptions of the culprits given by the victims who had filed complaints and their modus operandi, the Ajman Police confirmed that the arrested suspects were behind the assaults and robberies in Ajman also.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to these crimes but said they also had two accomplices based on Dubai. In coordination with the Dubai Police, the two were arrested from a residential area. All suspects confessed that they had posed as police officers, assaulted many people and took away their money. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Brig Sultan Al Nuaimi, Deputy Chief of Ajman Police, said the people should not believe if anyone stops them in the street saying they are from the police without checking the person’s ID card. The police will intensify patrolling to spot suspicious characters.
