The cops will be assigned in all roads in civilian cars to monitor traffic and drivers and fine violators.
The Director of Traffic Culture at the Ministry of Interior, Major Mosa Al Dossairi told Khaleej Times on Thursday that from May 1 to June 8 thirteen death cases occurred, compared with five in the same period of last year. “We are keen to know the reasons behind these cases to reduce them, while most of the current accidents occurred because of speeding and not taking more attention to the road.”
He said that most of these accidents could be avoided with the adoption of the best road safety measures.
The officer also warned of the danger of unlicenced quad bikes that are commonly used by underage children on public roads. He said that a ten years old boy died after his quad bikes collided with a car on Sunday.
The traffic department will also continue with its awareness campaign to promote better understanding of safety driving. The government has referred a traffic draft law to the parliament which would adopt point system on violators, as after certain points driving licences could be withdrawn.
