MANAMA - A Bahraini man weighing 320kg lost 40kg in less than a month after first of its kinds gastric bypass surgery in the Gulf region.

All gastric bypass operations in the region were for patients with less weights than the 51 years old Ali Darweesh Khadhem.

The success of the operation has motivated the state-run Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) to hold more similar surgeries. The SMC has so far conducted 50 successful gastric bypass surgeries.
