Junaid Jamshed launches ‘J dot’ boutique in Sharjah

DUBAI - Alif Investments, a diversified business conglomerate of UAE, on Wednesday launched the second ‘J dot’ boutique in Sharjah.

The exclusive franchise partner of the renowned designer wear label ‘Junaid Jamshed’ plans to open three more outlets in the UAE this before exploring the fashion market in the GCC region.

“We plan to open next outlet in Abu Dhabi before Ramazan followed by one more in Al Ain and Dubai,” Muhammed Asif Jabbar, Group Chief Executive Officer of Alif Investments, told Khaleej Times ahead of the formal opening ceremony in Sharjah.

Shaikh Saud bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Adviser in office of Sharjah Ruler Sheikhs Office, inaugurated the boutique. The entrepreneurial designer of “J dot” retail chain Junaid Jamshed, senior officials from Alif Investments, other VIP guests and media attended the opening ceremony held at Sharjah’s busy Zamzam market.

The opening coincided with the unveiling of Junaid Jamshed lawn exhibition, which is being held for the first time in the region. The three-day exhibition begins today and will continue till Saturday at the J Dot outlets in Bur Dubai and Sharjah.  

“After a successful stint in Bur Dubai, other emirates were our next destination.  We are appreciative of the demand of fashion connoisseurs from Sharjah and hence it is the natural progression for J.dot’s dynamic retail growth in the UAE territory. We plan to open 50 outlets across GCC in coming 5 years” said Arif Abdul Aziz Memon, Chairman, Alif Investments.

Asif Jabbar said Alif Investments plans to launch the brand in the region remain unaffected with the ongoing unrest in the region.

“We hopefully launch three outlets in Saudi Arabia by first quarter of 2012,” he said adding that plans are afoot for Bahrain, Qatar and Oman at later stage.

Jabbar said Alif Inverstments are positive to its original plan to open 50 outlets in the GCC region by 2015.

In reply to a question, he said the group is in talks with the officials of Al Ghurair Malls to launch Junaid Jamshed brand at the malls in Dubai. 

Junaid Jamshed said Alif Investments is exploring opportunities to open its fashion brand outlets in malls after successful ventures at bazaars. “We have short-listed The Mall of Emirates, Deira City Centre and Al Ghurair Mall for our maiden outlet at mall to tap the huge demand from customers,” designer and former pop singer said.

In reply to a question, the Pakistani designer said competition in Dubai is on the rise as Indian and Bangladeshi competitors launched more variety and fashion designs since the launch of first store in Dubai. “Dubai is a vibrant fashion centre in the region and we have plans to open outlets in key locations.”

In reply to another question, he said lawn exhibition, starting today, is being held for the first time in the region. “We successfully launched lawn exhibitions in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and I hope it would get good response here as well.”

Junaid Jamshed is a very popular and established brand in the markets of Pakistan and United Kingdom, a brand that offers elegant image in sync with traditional Asian values. Currently the brand operates 40 outlets in Pakistan and four in United Kingdom.
