25 November 2009
ABU DHABI — Air Asia X, the long-haul, low-cost wing of Kuala Lumpur-based airline AirAsia, on Tuesday launched direct service between Abu Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur with its maiden flight to the UAE and the Middle East.

The flight will initially operate five days a week, and will make daily flights by the middle of next year, depending on load factor, Azran Osman-Rani, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia X, told a news conference held in connection with the arrival of the inaugural flight.

“We perceive that Abu Dhabi is well located to be the hub of our operations in the region. We will also be exploring other destinations in the region like Jeddah, Teheran and Bahrain,” AirAsia Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer Dato Kamarudin Meranun, told Khaleej Times.
