Veteran comedian and TV host Willie Revillame could face jail time for alleged child abuse.
In a decision, the Court of Appeals (CA) affirmed the Philippine's Quezon City Regional Trial Court branch 86's arrest order against the television host in relation to a child exploitation case.
The CA said QC RTC Judge Roberto Buenaventura did not act in excess of his authority and that there is probable cause when he issued the arrest of Revillame in October 2013.
The CA decision stemmed from a child abuse case filed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development against the 54-year-old television host following the March 12, 2011 episode of his now defunct TV5 primetime programme Willing Willie.
In the said episode, Revillame urged a six-year-old boy named Jan-jan to perform like a male stripper. He even gave the boy P10,000 and asked him to repeat the dance move. The TV host and the audience continued teasing Jan-jan who was in tears.
Revillame filed a motion for reconsideration but was denied on October 4, 2013, prompting him to elevate the case before the CA.
