Gwen bats for Obama (Reuters) / 5 July 2012 US PRESIDENT OBAMA’S campaign is doing a thorough job of recruiting celebrities to publicly push for his reelection - and to lend their well-appointed houses to the cause while they’re at it. Gwen Stefani is the latest boldface name signed on to host an Obama fundraiser, this time a Families for Obama Sunday of Fun event featuring First Lady Michelle Obama at the No Doubt frontwoman’s Beverly Hills home on August 12. Civilians hoping to join the festivities can buy tickets starting at $1,000 for a family of four, with all proceeds going to the Obama Victory Fund, a campaign official said. Stefani is part of her own four-person family unit, with sons Kingston James McGregor Rossdale and Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale and her husband of a decade, Bush singer Gavin Rossdale. Fellow politically oriented (and more specifically, Obama-oriented) celebrities George Clooney, Sarah Jessica Parker and Glee creator Ryan Murphy have also held pro-Obama events at their own homes over the last two months. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and salsa star Marc Anthony have also given public pitches recently to raise money for the president’s second bid for the White House. |
