A little shout from La Prairie

David Light

7 November 2009

They have been skin care specialists for decades but Swiss firm La Prairie are bringing three new scents for every woman to the region. Here we speak to the company’s international trainer, Bettina Klug

It started in a clinic in Switzerland over seventy years ago with Clinique La Prairie. However, since Laboratoires La Prairie broke away in 1978 it has been the birthplace of extraordinarily effective products that help manage the skin aging process. La Prairie is renowned both for the scientific integrity of its products and for its unparalleled commitment to perfection.

The Clinique has been the pioneer in cellular, anti-aging therapy, sharing its unique accomplishments with thousands of visitors from around the world and Laboratoires La Prairie takes that expertise around the world in the form of creams and lotions to help reverse the ageing process.

However, La Prairie has now branched out and taken their commitment to perfection to the perfume market by launching three new fragrances under the title Life Threads. The three exquisite perfumes within Life Threads aim to enhance the nuances of a woman’s life: one scent for romance named Silver; one for success — Gold; and Platinum for the powerful, original woman. Together, Life Threads are a triple self-indulgence touted as an emotional wardrobe of fragrances to suit any mood or moment.

To make a statement as bold as the scent it encases, the bottles of Life Threads are wrapped in strands of Silver, Gold and Platinum, to represent life’s rich tapestry. Simultaneously simple and luxurious, the clean architectural lines of the clear bottles are softened by the delicate threads woven throughout, giving each a distinct precious metal personality. To capture the complex essence of Life Threads, La Prairie tapped the considerable talents of Constance Georges-Picot, a French perfumer who places all of her heart, soul and passion into the art of fragrance design.

Upon the announcement Life Threads were going to be released in the UAE we spoke to La Prairie’s International Trainer Bettina Klug to find out more. Hailing from Germany Bettina joined the La Prairie International Training team in Zurich, Switzerland in January 2008 and is currently responsible for training throughout Europe, Russia and the Middle East. She has worked in the cosmetic industry since 1999 so knows her stuff when talking all things beauty. “Swiss style is always known to be very luxurious,” Bettina began. “If something comes from Switzerland you know it is usually very exclusive.”

“We are known as skin care experts and that is our heritage we are very proud of but we want to show we are a complete beauty brand and that is why we started our line of fragrances in 2006. The first one was called Silver Rain then Midnight Rain and now our trilogy of fragrances called Life Threads.”

Bettina told us that Life Threads is the most up to date product line La Prairie is launching worldwide and explained the type of woman that would ideally go for the perfumes. “The modern woman shows many faces to the world, she is a shape shifter. One is a mother, sister, business woman, seductress and lover and not only one fragrance can articulate her character. That is why these three are so different and each one is a metaphor for a facet of a woman’s life.”

Perhaps the most surprising of all three fragrances was Platinum, which had a distinctly masculine undertone. “We think this is something new for women,” Bettina intonated. “It is definitely one for the woman who wants to be in charge in the boardroom but still keep her strong identity. It is something new and people will have to get used to it but I think it will be very successful in the region as many women are very self confident.”  It was Gold that won out on the day for the most pleasant scent and the one tagged as being most successful in the region but head out and try them for yourself.

Life Threads are available in all good perfumeries now.
