In the city: Special Ceremony to mark Pakistan Independence Day

12 August 2009

Pakistan’s ambassador at Large, Javed Malik, and the UAE-based Pakistani community are organising a ceremony to mark the country’s 62nd day of independence on August 14 2009 in Dubai with the support of Pakistan International Council, which operates under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani.

The theme of the ceremony will be to promote goodwill and friendship and it will be aimed at showcasing the rich and vibrant Pakistani culture through art, music, and fashion. The ceremony will also pay tribute to the longstanding and deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and the UAE and celebrate the love shared between the people of both countries. A large number of expatriate Pakistanis live in the UAE and according to estimates they form the second largest population group who are actively engaged in business and professional world. Moreover, the leaders of both countries share an extremely close friendship at all levels.

“The ceremony will celebrate Pakistan’s Independence day, but at the same time will also pay tribute to the special and deep friendship based on love and cultural affinity between the people of Pakistan and the UAE,” said Javed Malik, Pakistan’s Ambassador at Large who is spearheading this initiative. “The ceremony on August 14 will kick off the celebrations which will continue for a few days in various parts of the UAE to showcase Pakistani culture and celebrate our friendship through positive interactions,” added the ambassador.

Noted UAE based organisations have extended their support for making this ceremony a success which is being held at one of the top star hotels in Dubai and being organised in association with Schon Properties, UBL, ARY Digital, HUM FM, Ahlan Masala and Khaleej Times.
