Get blasted in an indoor wind tunnel
Curious about the sensation of freefall, but too frightened to take the leap from a plane on an actual skydive? Head to the high-tech flying chamber at Inflight Dubai, which is over 20m tall and 5m wide - the world's largest vertical wind tunnel. Under the supervision of an instructor, you'll be making turns and floating steadily in the air in no time. The tunnel is open to anyone from children to seasoned professional skydivers. Book in advance.
Prices vary. Take E66 towards Al Ain, take exit 47 and follow the signs.
A taste of the Ottomans
If you're a history or regional TV buff, head to City Walk for a glimpse inside Istanbul's Topkapi Palace by taking a stroll to the "Hareem Al Sultan" exhibition. Inspired by the Turkish TV Show, that has proved wildly popular with Arab audiences, the exhibition includes interior décor, jewellery, and attire of the Ottoman Empire that were used in the filming of the show. You can also listen to poems by Suleiman the Magnificent and taste traditional sherbets and sweets.
Ticket price: Dh 150
Doors open: 12 PM - 10 PM
Authentic Emirati Food, anyone?
Try authentic local Emirati cuisine at Al Fanar Restaurant and Café at the Festival Centre in Dubai Festival City. The decor and pictures on the wall will take you back to the sleepy Dubai that existed before the glitz and glam of today's version. Try the Saloona Samak, a fish stew cooked in tomato sauce and tamarind and served with rice on the side or bread, or the traditional mutton-meat Kebab Emirati.
Prices: approx Dh 180 for 2
Located on the ground floor of the Festival Centre in Dubai Festival City.
