Romeo Montague And Juliet Capulet
It's been said before, and we'll say it again - no two people capture the essence, excitement and grief of young love like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The lovers, who came from feuding families, had a dramatic whirlwind romance that only lasted three days and yet their story has spawned countless songs and movie adaptations (such as the more contemporary flick Romeo+Juliet, seen right), as well as the term 'star-struck lovers'. The reason for their popularity is obvious - the timelessness of the tale. Forbidden love never gets old, does it?
Best Quote: "Did my heart love 'til now? Forswear its sight. For I never saw true beauty 'til this night."

 Elizabeth Bennet and  Fitzwilliam Darcy
They were indifferent at first, disliked each other next, and gradually fell in love. Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is a must-read for anyone who enjoys good literature with a sprinkling of love, family and drama. Not only does the book bring to mind the genteel manners of a forgotten time, but its characters are real and flawed and resonate with so many of us. Once you're done with the book, be sure to check out the hit 2005 adaptation starring Matthew Macfadyen and Keira Knightley
Best Quote: "You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."
  • Mr Darcy
 Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler
The 1939 movie based on Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell received 12 Academy Awards out of 13 nominations, forever cementing it in Hollywood's hall of fame - and the book as an absolute must-read. Not only is the book famous for its controversial romance, but O'Hara's feisty, strong-willed character stands out by a mile. After all, spirited heroines are always very much in demand in the literary world, and we can see why this one would be an instant hit.
Best Quote: "You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how."
  • Rhett Butler
 Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan
Nicholas Sparks may be best known for The Notebook, but take some time out to appreciate the teen couple in his more underrated A Walk to Remember. It starts out in a classic good-girl-meets-bad-boy manner but changes rapidly to become something more heartfelt. Although they are polar opposites, Landon and Jamie support each other through the thick and the thin - gradually learning to become better people in the process. Which is what real love is about, after all. The 2002 flm adaptation was a sleeper hit and will tug at your heartstrings.
Best Quote: "Jamie saved my life. She taught me everything. About life, hope and the long journey ahead."
  • Landon
Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters
John Green's The Fault in our Stars proved that young adult couples can be just as realistic and romantic as any other. Hazel is a 16-year-old cancer patient who has lived a very sheltered life, and Augustus is a spirited teen who lost his leg due to osteosarcoma. The beauty of this book lies in their dialogue (the things said and not said), their optimism as they face their own mortality and their real, heart-warming chemistry. The 2014 film adaptation, like the book, was a huge success.
Best Quote: "As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once."
  • Hazel
