It is common for hoax celebrity death rumours to spread like wildfire on social media.
Since morning, Twitter has been flooded with Indian Twitteratis expressing their heartfelt condolences for losing the legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar.
It is only a while back that a story in The Times of India confirmed that the rumours are a hoax and Dilip Kumar is in fact in good health. His wife Saira Banu was quoted saying, "It is just that his blood pressure was on the higher side and perhaps the doctor's frequent visits gave rise to these stories. Touch wood, he is doing well, now."
Sadly, this isn't the first time the internet has killed the iconic actor. In 2014, social media had jumped to the baseless conclusion of the actor dying. It was only after Amitabh Bachchan put out a tweet refuting it that the rumours were squashed.
Maybe it's time for social media users not to fan unverified rumours and seek authenticity of information before passing it ahead.
