 WAN-IFRA announced that Shaikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, chairman, Sharjah Media Centre (SMC), has joined the programme for the 11th WAN-IFRA Middle East Conference, which will take place on February 24 and 25 at the InterContinental Hotel in Festival City, Dubai.
Al Qasimi holds a number of chairs, including deputy chairman of Sharjah Petroleum Council (since 1999), chairman of the Pipeline Company Anabeeb (since 2003), chairman of Basma Group (since 2005), chairman of Green Planet (since 2005), chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation (since 2009) and member of the Sharjah Executive Council (since 2000). He is also chairman of the Medical Waste Company Wekaya (since 2010), chairman of Sharjah National Oil Company (since 2010) and chairman of Tilal Properties (since 2014).
Al Qasimi holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Arkansas State University, Arkansas, USA, and a master of science degree in computer information systems from University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan.
WAN-IFRA's Middle East Conference is the annual meeting place for news publishers in the region. This year's conference is expected to attract 200 publishers, CEOs, managing directors, chief editors and other senior media executives to Dubai to look at and benefit from case studies from all around the globe.
This year's topic, 'Transforming Media Companies', will highlight how newspapers are responding to the challenge by constant innovation and implementing new ideas and business models.
In the keynote presentation, Michael Golden, vice-chairman, The New York Times Company and former publisher of the IHT, US, will discuss how his media company undertook its transformative journey.
In addition to speakers from Dubai, Saudi Arabia and the US, the event will feature presentations and case studies from Belgium, Canada, Germany, India, Norway, Singapore, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Other confirmed speakers for this year's event include: Justin Kirby, VP of strategic content marketing, Tenthwave Digital, UK, who will talk about: 'Branded content: a survival strategy for the coming 'adblocalypse'.
Kirby will present examples where advertising and entertainment collide and beyond, as well as insights from global experts to help deliver more engaging content strategies for brands and consumers.
Rodd Winscott, president of Topweb, printing division, US, will talk about inkjet printing for newspapers.
