The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, or DSCE, held its 38th meeting, where Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and other programmes and initiatives launched by the council were reviewed.
The meeting was headed by Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Emirates airline and Chief Executive of the Emirates Group.
It was attended by Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, secretary-general of the DSCE; Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company; Abdullah Abdul Kareem, director-general of the Department of Oil Affairs; Salim bin Mesmar, assistant director-general for the Environment, Health and Safety Sector at Dubai Municipality; Waleed Salman, vice-chairman of the Dubai Nuclear Energy Committee; Nasser Hamad Bu Shehab, director of the Roads and Transport Authority's Strategic Planning department; Keiron Ferguson, general manager of the Dubai Supply Authority; and Fred Chemin, head of production development at the Dubai Petroleum Establishment.
The council members reviewed and updated the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy for 2030, in light of Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to produce 75 per cent of Dubai's energy from clean sources by 2050. The attendees also reviewed Etihad Esco's executive plan for energy demand management within the UAE, which will support the implementation of energy demand management under the supervision of the supreme council in cooperation with its partners and other organisations.
"We discussed 'No Vehicle Day', an initiative to encourage people to make better use of public transportation, to preserve the environment and reduce carbon emissions. The initiative was organised by Dubai Municipality under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, and will be implemented on February 21, 2016. The Council intends to actively take part in the initiative," said Al Muhairbi.
