Bid to regulate sale of child seats in UAE

dubai - Companies must produce a certificate stating that the product complies with Emirati standards

Child restraint products in vehicles will not be allowed to be sold in the UAE unless there is a certificate stating that it complies with Emirati standards. The standards are in line with international best practices, the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (Esma) said.

The move is in implementation of a Cabinet resolution issued last year to control child restraints that can be installed in vehicles.

According to the resolution, all merchants and suppliers need to obtain a certificate of conformity with the Esma before introducing new products in the markets for sale.

The authority received 4 requests from major companies working in the UAE,= and 8 types of children's seat products were recorded, according to Abdullah Al Maeeni, director-general of the Esma.

"The aim of this decision is to provide safe products conforming to international standards. Companies have an obligation to use the models approved by the UAE cabinet," said the Esma.

One of the most important requirements is to provide traders with instruction manuals in English and Arabic with the products.
