UAE, Korea trade seen rebounding in 2017

UAE, Korea trade ties will soon be seen bouncing back in 2017 given the massive investments in key economic sectors like real estate projects and nuclear power reactors, among others said Namduk Heo, Consul General of the Republic of Korea to Dubai and the Northern Emirates on Wednesday.
Heo spoke to Khaleej Times on sidelines of third edition of the annual Korean Food Festival organised on Wednesday. The day-long festival brought in a wide variety of Korean foods and beauty and fashion products and services. Currently it is estimated between12,000-13,000 Koreans reside in UAE and it is expected to see the surge in numbers as more economic activity picks up between two nations. The trade between two countries is estimated at $23 billion so far
Humaid Al Hammadi, President of Emirati-Korean Friendship Society, said: "The UAE and Korea have inked some strategic partnerships including nuclear power plant and health services. Currently about 200 plus Korean companies are operating in the country and we expect a surge in this number by next year, particularly in small and medium enterprise sector."
Speaking at the event, Al Hammadi, said: "It is time we now look at Korean food which is very delicious, tasty and healthy as it contains high fibre. I recommend ginseng and Kimchi for people to try it."
Heo, said: "The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea is honoured to host the Korean Food Festival in Dubai. Each year, the response to the event has been phenomenal. This year saw an increase in participation from vendors and visitors alike. It is our endeavour to familiarise the world with the beautiful culture of Korea and the rich flavours of our food. The UAE being a melting pot of so many different cultures, this event serves as a gateway to the world to the rich tastes and sounds of Korea."
"The overwhelming success of this event has been very encouraging for us and our partners. We intend to make this event even bigger in scale and offerings in the coming years," he added.
The festival witnessed renowned Korean restaurants, grocery chains and bakeries showcasing some of the best Korean dishes, condiments and other specialties. The wide range of dishes on display included Kimchi and Bulgogi as well as modern style snack foods like Tteokbokki and fried chicken.
