In yet another food-related rumour - this time about bread - Dubai Municipality (DM) denied currently circulating rumours right now that a poisonous substance forms on bread if it is left within its plastic packaging in summer room temperatures.
Khalid Al Awadhi, Executive Director of DM's Food Safety Department, clarified that bread cannot turn into a toxic substance from the way it's stored; it just gets spoilt from the heat generated within its plastic packaging during summer, which accelerates the spoilage.
Awadhi also confimed that the plastic used for bread packaging does not contain dioxins - which are highly toxic - as widely speculated on social media. The rumour is not supported by any scientific evidence, he pointed out.
DM makes full efforts to respond to such rumours, in order to maintain public health and to protect people from any risks.
