Etihad begins flights to Ahmedabad

(Staff Report) / 3 November 2012

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, on Thursday launched flights between Abu Dhabi and Ahmedabad, India’s fifth largest city and former capital of the Indian state of Gujarat.

With the addition of Ahmedabad, Etihad now flies to nine Indian destinations, including the cities of New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kochi, with a total of 59 flights to India per week.

“Etihad Airways is committed to serving the Indian market and people, whether in India or the diaspora.  We are delighted to launch this new service and are committed to serving our customers in Guajarat,” Etihad Airways president and chief executive officer James Hogan said.

“Our daily, two-class A320 service to Ahmedabad is another step in expanding our presence on the Indian Subcontinent and connecting key strategic cities with Abu Dhabi.”

“We are confident that the addition of the Ahmedabad service will further strengthen commercial and cultural ties between India and the UAE and will lead to continued strong growth in traffic flows between India, Abu Dhabi and beyond.”

Irish museum partnership

Meanwhile, Etihad continues to build upon its proud position as a leading supporter of Irish culture, sport and arts, with the launch of the Sidney Nolan Ned Kelly Series at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, or Imma, in Dublin.

The collection of 26 iconic paintings of the notorious bushranger Ned Kelly has been carried to Ireland by Etihad from the National Gallery of Australia. Etihad began presenting these to the public at the Imma New Galleries yesterday.

“We are delighted to be the presenting partner for the Sidney Nolan series, a world class exhibition which will further strengthen deep bonds between Ireland and Australia, two countries that Etihad Airways has a great affinity with,” Hogan said.
