DUBAI — His Higness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued several new decrees reorganising a number of government-run companies and appointing top officials to them. He decreed that Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer be appointed as Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre, effective immediately, according to a posting on Friday on Shaikh Mohammed’s official Web site.
Under a separate decree, the Investment Corporation of Dubai, or ICD, will have a new board of directors to be chaired by Shaikh Mohammed. His son, Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, will serve as the ICD’s Deputy Chairman. Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, has been appointed to the ICD’s board.
Shaikh Mohammed decreed that Dubai Duty Free will be a publicly-traded company attached to the ICD. Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum has been appointed as Chairman of Dubai Duty Free.
Another decree created the Supreme Commission for Fiscal Policy in the Emirate of Dubai. The body will be headed by Shaikh Ahmed.
Shaikh Mohammed also named Shaikh Hamdan as chairman of the new board of Dubai Aluminium Company, while Al Tayer has been appointed as its deputy chairman. The company’s other board members are Hilal Khalfan bin Zahir, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Mohammad Abdullah Ahmed Al Ghurair, Tariq Hussain Khansaheb, Abdullah Salem Mohammed Mana and Abdul Wahid Al Fahim.
Under a separate decree, the name of the Office of the Dubai Shopping Festival was changed to the Corporation of Dubai Events and Trade Promotion. The company will retain its primary task of strengthening Dubai’s status as a centre for regional and international events and festivals.
A last decree replaces the name of the Foundation for the Care of Women and Children with Dubai Establishment for the Care of Women and Children.
