#MyDubai E-museum

The hashtag #MyDubai was announced on January 5 by His Highness Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, with a request on his Instagram and Twitter accounts for residents and visitors to join him in creating “the world’s first autobiography of a city” by sharing compelling moments of their lives during 2014 by using the hashtag #MyDubai. The request has resulted in more than 75,000 photo and video submissions on Instagram, and more than 27,000 Twitter mentions following HH Shaikh Hamdan’s request to demonstrate the unique identity and true culture of Dubai.

The #MyDubai e-Museum is the first of a number of projects which will combine to create the multimedia autobiography, and will be managed by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). Every week throughout the year, 10 images submitted on the #MyDubai hashtag will be selected to join the museum’s ‘collection’ and shown on www.instagram/mydubai, while www.twitter.com/mydubai will exhibit a selection of articles, stories, images and videos. Hop on the bandwagon and show some love for your city!

Fashion With a Cause

Apparel brand Giordano has teamed up with Mawaheb from Beautiful People, to launch a specially designed collection. Mawaheb, an art studio for adults with special needs located in Bastakiya, has teamed up with the brand to create t-shirts with the theme “World Without Strangers”. The collection features six different designs, each one accompanied by the signature of its creator, and imprinted on black and white t-shirts. These will be available at Giordano stores starting February 4, for Dh50 each, and half of the price will be donated to Mawaheb for their development. This is the second time Giordano and Mawaheb have collaborated, and in 2012, the collaboration raised Dh60,000 for the studio. Let’s help raise more money for the good cause, and shop a little more!

Ajmal Perfumes’s Youth Initiative

Ajmal perfumes, the region’s multi award-winning fragrance house is launching the world’s first “Young Prosumer Initiative” that will exclusively be conducted through various online platforms. This initiative aims to reach out to GCC youth aged between 16 and 25 years to create and launch Ajmal’s next youth product, through three different phases, in terms of direction and product design.

Since the young ones spend a lot of time on social media, the perfume brand chose the digital space to launch and run this initiative.

Miley Cyrus for Marc Jacobs

The Wrecking Ball songstress’s personal life may not have much to write about, but professionally she seems to be on her way up. There is no better validation than getting asked to be the face of a brand, and given that Cyrus has snagged the Marc Jacobs SS 14 campaign, we are happy that things are looking up for the troubled singer and actress. The young diva loves her Jacobs outfits, and has been spotted in the designer’s pieces all through last year, at various events. The images from the campaign are out, and they are nothing like the happy, sunny and floral SS campaigns we are used to — this one has a backdrop of a stormy beach at dusk, with models wearing dark outfits and a zombie look.

A Ride with Benefits

This Valentine’s Day, booking an Uber Taxi will get you more than just a comfortable ride. The cab service has teamed up with the monthly beauty subscription — Glambox — to treat the ladies on V-day with goodies waiting for them in the taxi. What makes Uber special is that the smartphone application directly connects you to your private driver at the tap of a button, so you know exactly where he is. This offer is valid from 13th to 15th February, and there is also a special Uber Card worth Dh80 in the February edition of Glambox.
