15 March 2005
SHARJAH — The eyewitness who had tried to hold on to the serial attacker who targets women in Sharjah described him as tall and lean with a black long beard and a fair complexion. He believed the suspect is from Afghanistan.

The Indian eyewitness told Khaleej Times in an interview that he tried his best to hold on to the attacker, but failed to control him, and as a result, the attacker succeeded in escaping before the eyewitness could notify the police. “He was holding a sharp, small knife that he was trying to use to hurt me,” he added.

The eyewitness, who was passing by the Corniche Al Buhairah around 11pm said that he saw the suspect when he stabbed a lady, and he chased him till he succeeded in holding him, but unfortunately, he ran away. The eyewitness said he notified the police about the incident. “I am cooperating with the policemen who are bringing people with the same descriptions of the suspect to identify them, but so far, the suspect has not been held by the police,” the Indian eyewitness said, stressing that he remembers very well the features of the attacker and he can easily identify him as soon as he sees him.

The police in Sharjah confirmed that four women of various nationalities were stabbed in their back in different parts of the Sharjah City by the attacker during the late hours of the night, but the rumours say more than 15 women were attacked. An official from the Sharjah police stressed that since the police received the four complaints 25 days ago, no further incidents of such kind have taken place in any part of the city till yesterday.

He added that the police have intensified their efforts to arrest the attacker, taking precautionary measures and security procedures to protect members of society from being assaulted and ensuring peace and security in the emirate. The police officers of the investigation unit and other sections are making great efforts and doing their best to find the suspect, with police officers spread in every spot in Sharjah to be able to arrest the attacker so that he can face justice. “They will not rest until they catch this attacker who created panic among the public and disturbed peace and security in the emirate“ he added.
