FUJAIRAH — Fujairah Traffic Court has ordered a UAE national to pay Dh200,000 as diya (blood money) to the heirs of an Indian expatriate, who died due to an accident caused by the national in February.

As per court records, the national motorist, M.A.A, was driving at high speed on the Fujairah-Khor Fakkan highway when he rammed his vehicle into the car of the Indian, T.M, who had slowed down to pass a hump.

The Indian motorist sustained critical injuries and was taken to Khor Fakkan Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The single-bench court headed by judge Mohammed Saleh and attended by Haitham Al Shawka, Public Prosecutor of the Traffic Department, also slapped a fine of Dh300 on the UAE national.

Jail term reduced in drug abuse case

FUJAIRAH — The Fujairah Court of Appeals, presided over by Counsellor Mohammed Abdurrahman Al Jarrah, has reduced the 11-year jail term awarded to a Gulf citizen to only four years in prison for drug abuse.

It also dropped the drug trafficking charge against the convict, identified as A.H.

As per court records, in May last year A.H. aroused the suspicion of the Anti-Narcotics Department of Fujairah Police for alleged shady activities. After a prolonged surveillance, a trap was set and he was caught red-handed while dealing in drugs.

He was referred to the prosecution which charged him with drug abuse and possession of narcotics with the intention of trafficking.

The Fujairah Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced A.H. to 11 years in prison, followed by deportation.

Both A.H. and the Prosecution moved the Fujairah Court of Appeals, which reduced the jail term. He will be deported after serving his term.
