Pranab’s visit to help boost ties with UAE

DUBAI — The visit of Indian Minister of External Affairs, Pranab Mukherjee, is expected to add further momentum to the growing relationship of India with the Gulf countries, especially the UAE, diplomatic sources said.

During his two-day visit which begins today, Mukherjee is expected to meet the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The visiting minister will address a gathering of local and Indian expatriate businessmen in Dubai and speak on “India’s Foreign Policy and India-Gulf Relations, Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century” at the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, the Indian ambassador to the UAE, Talmiz Ahmed, said, “The minister will discuss not only bilateral relations but also the security issues in the region with his UAE counterparts.”.
