AL AIN — Believe it or not, a T-shirt with sexually suggestive message — “I am not gay but my friend is” — is being sold in one of the markets in Al Ain City.

The offence is being committed despite the regular inspections by the concerned authorities to ensure that items sold in the city’s markets are complying with the local customs and traditions..

An Emirati resident here complained recently that he found the offensive message on his 10-year-old son’s T-shirt.

The father of the boy was astonished and wondered how such T-shirts entered the country.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, another national here recently found the name of God written under the outer soles of his son’s shoes.

The man said his wife bought the shoes from one of the famous shoe shops in Al Ain but she did not notice the writing.

The man has appealed to the Economy and Planning Department to take action against the shops that committed such violations.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Khalid Hamer Ain, Head of the Commercial Licences Department of the Planning and Economy Administration in Al Ain, said that it was difficult to prevent all cases of such violations.
