Janavi Kapoor, an aspiring actress — who claims to have had a small role in a film in which Abhishek also acted — also claimed that Abhishek had promised to marry her.
Janavi slashed her wrists in the vicinity of the Bachchans' bungalow, and was rushed to a near-by hospital. The police claimed that she was mentally disturbed, and appeared to have been on drugs.
However, Janavi got her five-minutes of fame, as television cameras covered the drama and telecast her claims.
IANS adds: Kapoor was yesterday arrested for attempted suicide hours before the star actor was to marry Aishwarya Rai. A court in Mumbai granted bail to Janhavi Kapoor, an aspiring actress who tried to allegedly commit suicide outside Amitabh Bachchan's residence.
Kapoor was granted bail for Rs10,000 by a metropolitan magistrate's court.
With blood dripping from her wrist, the girl — whose screen name is Jahnavi Kapoor — had reached the Bachchan bungalow after midnight on Thursday where pre-nuptial celebrations of the Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding were in full swing.
The former model, whose real name is said to be Naina Haya Rizvi and who played a small role in Abhishek-starrer Dus, told reporters yesterday that she had been jilted by the star. While the girl’s mother, settled in Kashmir, claims to have known of the ‘affair’, her former father-in-law from Lucknow said “she is capable of doing such things...She was enamoured by glamour.”
Naina’s mother Shaheena Nasir, who originally hails from Lucknow and now lives in Kashmir, said: “We have been tortured by the media since morning. Please leave me alone. Yes, I knew of my daughter’s affair with Abhishek.
“I always advised her to control herself and bury the affair as she is a Muslim and Abhishek is a Hindu and their affair could create social complications for both the families,” Shaheena told IANS here.
She said that Naina was one of her four daughters from a previous marriage. Shaheena married her second husband Agha Nasir in 1982.
Agha Nasir, however, said Naina was one of the two daughters who remained with their father Mohsin Rizvi in Lucknow.
“I know nothing about this affair. Naina lived with her father along with her other sister while the remaining two sisters lived here in Kashmir with Shaheena and me. (The two with us) are studying management in England.”
Agha Nasir said Naina also had a 10-year-old son from her divorced husband, Kalbe Hassan. “(The boy) is living with us here,” he said.
In Lucknow, Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, the senior vice-president of the AIMPLB (All India Muslim Personal Law Board), confirmed that Jahnavi’s real name was Haya. He also said her father was Mohsin Rizvi, a lawyer in Lucknow who was separated from Naina’s mother.
He said: “Naina was her nickname. This girl was married to my son in 1997, then they divorced in 2001. We did not approve of her at all, but my son insisted and so we allowed him to marry. We are trying to get our grandson back from his nani (maternal grandmother).
