Former Federation Internationale Automobiles president Max Mosley was keen on introducing the green technology to the Formula One in 2009, but he faced stiff opposition from the big teams that the plan had to be postponed.
The newly-appointed FIA president Jean Todt seems to have kept this issue on the top of his agenda in the near future. “It is a very important issue. Everybody is focussed on this. We will have to face very clearly the environment, the planet temperature programme. These are some of the things that have to be considered for a good earth.”
He felt that a synergy had to be created between racing and environment. “We have to look into many things in all countries. Educate them about the road safety and infrastructure. This is already a part of what I want to achieve.”
On the teams for the next season, the former executive director of Ferrari said at the moment the FIA has agreed on 14 teams for the next season.
Todt, who was on a visit to Abu Dhabi to witness the last race of the season, had a word of praise for the new circuit. “The circuit looks great. It has a new style and a different look. The happy thing for me is I don’t have any pressure watching the race and very delighted to be a spectator.”
Asked whether he was excited to be in Abu Dhabi, he jokingly said: “My exciting days started last Friday (after being elected FIA president). This I would say was just one of those pit stops.”
