BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil — More than 40,000 Cruzeiro fans have bid farewell to retired Argentine defender Juan Pablo Sorin in a testimonial match against Argentinos Juniors.

Sorin played a half with each of his former clubs in Wednesday’s match at Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte.

A veteran of two World Cups, Sorin announced he was ending his 15-year football career last July.

The 33-year-old also previously played for Juventus and Lazio in Italy, Barcelona and Villarreal in Spain, Paris Saint-Germain in France, Hamburg in Germany and River Plate in Argentina.

‘It was a privilege,’ Sorin said. ‘I’m retiring from football with a lot of happiness.’

Cruzeiro won Wednesday’s match 2-1.
