The 25-year-old fan-favourite will join her Solheim Cup team-mate Michelle Wie and a galaxy of European superstars in what has been billed as the strongest field ever assembled for a Ladies European Tour event outside a major.
Boasting career earnings of well over $3 million since turning pro in 2002, the two-time winner on the LPGA Tour has become one of the most exciting players with her animated and vocal style of play.
She displayed her stellar talent to a European audience at the 2009 Solheim Cup at Rich Harvest Farms in August when the Korean-American professional won three points for the US, including a crucial point against Tania Elosegui in the singles on the final day to clinch the Cup for her team.
Christina tied for third at the Women’s British Open for her best finish in a major championship and also recorded three additional top 10 finishes including seventh at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, tied eighth at the Safeway Classic and a tie for ninth at the CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge where she carded a season-low 65 in the third round.
She is hoping to carry on with the same momentum when she flies into Dubai. “I’ve never been to Dubai, I am so thrilled, excited and honoured to be attending this year: playing some fantastic golf, enjoying the sights, shopping, and spending time with some of the best female golfers in the world,” Christina said ahead of the euro 500,000 tournament, promoted and organised by golf in DUBAi.
No one doubts the quality of her game, but the clothes and the personality are what most people notice. “I like to think I attract a rowdier gallery than other golfers,” said Kim, who fired an eight-under-par 62 at the US Girls’ Junior Championship when she was just 17. “I have a distinct sense of style. I’m bold. I like attention. Mentally, I’m a loud and bright person so I dress accordingly,” she said in an interview.
“With her colourful sense of style and great personality, Christina is a very visible player,” says Mohammed Juma Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi. “Her enthusiastic attitude towards the game is something to be admired. She is like a breath of fresh air — and that’s something the tour needs,” said Buamaim.
“The special invitation to Christina is part of our drive to showcase the world’s best players and we hope their presence will provide a major boost to the game here. I wish Christina and all other players a pleasant stay in Dubai.”
