Boothroyd’s side romped to a 3-0 win at Southampton on Tuesday to move level on points with Championship leaders West Bromwich Albion but it is their form at Vicarage Road that concerns the Hornets manager.
Watford are without a win in front of their own supporters for over two months and Boothroyd is at a loss to explain the slump.
“I don’t know why our home form is so different to our away form but it is something we are looking to change,” Boothroyd said.
“We need to start picking up more points at home and it really is a mystery why we are not doing so at the moment.
“But we look a strong team and put in a real hard-working performance all over the pitch.
“If we keep playing like this then I am going to be a happy manager.”
Damien Francis opened the scoring at St Mary’s on the stroke of half-time when he finished off Tommy Smith’s cross.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 53rd minute. Southampton had protested a free-kick awarded against them and their frustration increased as Marlon King’s deflected shot trickled in.
Darius Henderson sealed the rout eight minutes later when he took King’s pass and drove home. Albion fell victim to Ipswich’s formidable record at Portman Road.
Jim Magilton’s team have now won 11 and drawn two of their home league games thanks to goals from David Wright and Jason De Vos.
Liam Trotter’s run set up their first in the 74th minute.
The midfielder cut through the visitors’ defence and picked out Wright, who headed his second goal of the season for his team.
